Stay safe at the coast this August bank holiday
Royal National Lifeboat Institution volunteer lifeboat crews and lifeguards are reminding people to think safety when visiting the coast.
The August bank holiday is typically a very busy time for the charity. While many people make the most of the long weekend by enjoying time on the beach or at sea, this often means increased incidents for the charity’s volunteer lifeboat crews, who are on-call 24/7, and its lifeguards, who are this year patrolling 150 of the UK’s busiest beaches.
Last year, RNLI volunteer crews launched 162 times over the long weekend, rescuing 167 people, while RNLI lifeguards responded to 424 incidents and helped 458 people on the beach....
